Mrs Juanny is a member of the Communal bank "Juan Zaplana Belliza" located at Jr. Abner Monrroy Cachay Mz. D Lt. 5, in the district of Yarina Cocha in the department of Ucayali. She is 40 years old and the mother of two young girls who are dependent on her. She is married and her husband work as a Technical Agriculturist. With the first loan of S/. 300 that Juanny received from Manuela Ramos, she invested in the sale of chickens. She has been working with the bank for five years.

Currently she is involved in the selling of clothing, and typically wakes up early in order to take care of her little daughters, after which she then dedicates herself to the needs of her customers.

With this loan of S/. 2.500, which will be repaid in 6 months, she will purchase larger quantities of garments: two boxes of blouses, 3 boxes of pants, 2 boxes of polos and other clothing for women, men and children.

Juanny is very grateful to the Manuela Ramos bank for unconditionally supporting her.

Update on your loan recipient, Juanny from Pucallpa, Peru

Entrepreneur: Juanny Flores Paredes
Location: Yarinacocha - Ucayali, Peru

Recently I visited Juanny at her home off of one of Pucallpa’s many dirt side streets to talk about her business. Juanny is engaged in two main business ventures at the moment. She raises chickens and also sells clothing which she orders from the capital, Lima, with the help of her sister who lives there.

Juanny has been working with Kiva partner Manuela Ramos for five years and has been the official treasurer of her communal bank “Juan Zaplana Belliza” for all of those years. Juanny showed me a television and DVD player that she is holding as a guarantee from a communal bank member who has not been making her loan payments recently. Juanny is holding these items in her capacity as treasurer. They will be returned to the delinquent borrower as soon as she makes her payments.

Juanny invested her most recent loan of 3000 soles (about $1000) in both her clothing-sales and chicken-raising businesses. Juanny sells most of her clothing out of a small home-based shop run by a neighbor a few doors down. Occasionally, she also gets candies and other items from Lima to sell in the little shops in her neighborhood. Juanny invested her very first loan of 300 soles (about $100) in raising 20 chicks. Her chicken business has grown quite a bit in the past five years—-Juanny now raises 500 chicks at a time. This business is doing quite well. Juanny raises a batch of 500 chicks six times a year, in two-month cycles (one month for the chicks to become full-grown, one month to clean out the coops and allow for potential disease vectors to die off). She earns 2200 soles (about $735) in profits from each batch. Juanny is raising her chicks on a plot of land across the street from her current home, where she is also constructing a new house for her family.

Juanny and her husband have two children, aged 16 and 10. Juanny’s husband is not working at the moment, though he helps her out with her chicken business. He will begin working with a pine nut production company in October.

Juanny told me that her loans from Manuela Ramos enabled her to begin her business ventures. She has had a good experience working with the organization. In this short video clip (recorded at the shop where Juanny sells her clothing), Juanny explains that she works for the sake of her children’s future. Thanks to the support from Manuela Ramos, she will continue to move forward with her ventures.
