Mumtaz M.ejaz's Group

Mumtaz baji is a wife of M.Ejaz and lives in the Bund Road area of Lahore, Pakistan. She owes a two-room brick house and has lived there for the last 15 years. She is the mother of two sons. Mumtaz baji's husband is a driver by profession and operates an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle). He has been in this line of work for the last 20 years. Mumtaz baji is a housewife and also makes clothing for her neighbors. She is applying for a loan to make payments on her husband's auto-rickshaw.

She is joined in her loan group by several other people. Meeran baji wants a loan to buy coconuts to resell. Sobia baji wants a loan to buy wood to resell. Razia baji wants a loan to buy material (such as beads and colored thread) for her decorative embroidery business. Seema baji wants a loan to buy goats for her meat business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
