Nang Chanthy

Nang Chanthy, 28, is a mother of two young children and lives with her husband in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. She is a garment factory worker and typically makes US$2 each day, while her husband, Nith Sean, 27, is a motor-taxi driver, earning around US$2.50 each day as well. He sometimes also acts as a construction worker building houses. Inflation has put the motor-taxi driver off the road; right now everyone make less because of the high price of gas. The government recently issued a report saying that the domestic prices of rice and fertilizer have doubled over the past year, while the price of meat and fish has increased 30 to 60 percent. Nang Chanthy would like to take out a loan of US$800 to breed two cows to have a calf.
