Shabnam Anwar Hussain's Group

Shabnam baji is a wife of Anwar Hussain and lives in a small town named Bund Road in the city Lahore, Pakistan. She has been living in this town for the last 6 years. She is the mother of four sons. Her first two sons are involved in an embroidery business and make embroidered dresses. Her other sons are enrolled in a local school in her neighborhood. Shabnam baji's husband makes artificial jewelry and sells the sets he makes in different markets. He has been in this profession for the last 20 years. Shabnam baji is a housewife and prefers to do household work and take care of her family. She successfully repaid her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy jewelry material such as beads, wires and tools to support her husband's business.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Iram baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop. Safina baji wants a loan to buy paints for her paint shop. Suraiya baji wants a loan to buy polish, which is used specifically to clean steel utensils and jewelry. Asia baji wants a loan so she can purcahse her auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle) in installments.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
