The “Clavel” (Carnation) association has been working in conjunction with Pro-Mujer in Villa Adela for four years. Most of its members are married and have big families. They all have their own businesses. Some sell a variety of clothing and hosiery in the yungas—the Eastern part of the Andes Mountains. Flora, on the other hand, sells sandals, slippers, and bathroom tissue, while Naldy, Isabel, and Rossy run neighborhood general stores. They say that it is imperative that they have their own businesses because their husbands’ wages are insufficient to support their families, and their children grow more and more each day.
They need capital to purchase wholesale products so that they may earn bigger profits.
