Sapolaneh Group

Aminat Bangura, Fatmata Bangura, Aminata Koroma and Fatmata Kamara have all teamed together in a group called Sapolaneh. They have successfully repaid previous loans from Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) and are now applying for a fourth loan. This, like their previous loans, will help them in improving their businesses and therefore improving the living standards for them and their dependents.

Aminata (pictured at left) is the leader for this group. She was born in Mile 91, a small town in the Tonkolili district, north of Sierra Leone. She is 25 years old and married with two children; one child is in primary school and the other is too young to start school.

Aminata has been selling cottons for three years. With her previous loan, she was able to buy 15 bales of cottons at a village called Bamoi (at a cost of Le 28,000.00 per bale). With this loan, Aminata will increase the amount of cottons she buys to 25 bales. Her aim now is to buy these cottons from Bamoi at a cheaper rate, and then supply her colleagues here in Makeni. This will allow her to make more of a profit, which, she said, means happiness for her.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
