21 De Agosto Group

The "21 de agosto" (August 21st) group is made up of ten women and four men who live in the tropical Santa Cruz region of eastern Bolivia. Many of the group members sell cosmetics and clothing. Others have different businesses at the La Ramada, Abasto and Mutualista Markets, like CD sales, carpentry, and candy sales. Some sell ducks and eggs, while others sell electronic games. One woman has a hair salon, and one man works as a salaried driver. Their clientele is the general public, for the most part. The group members say they plan to use this loan to buy more merchandise for their respective businesses and to buy more tools to work with.

Most of the group members have one to five years of experience in their respective lines of work, though three of the group members have more than ten years of experience.

Though most of the group members have previous credit experience at other Bolivian microfinance organizations, this is their first loan as a group from AgroCapital.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
