Update from Juanjui, Peru - Fidelina Muñoz Isminio

Entrepreneur: Fidelina Muñoz Isminio
Location: Juanjui - San Martin, Peru

Communal Bank: Micaela Bastidas

Location: Juanjui, San Martin Region – Peru

Loan amount: 1,000 soles

Fidelina sells fruit and vegetables at the Juanjui city market. With the loan of 1,000 soles, Fidelina bought a variety of fruit that she needs for her daily sales. She also invested in her own plot of land where she grows cacao, bananas and cotton. With money from the loans, Fidelina pays the workers who help her with each harvest and she also buys seeds and fertilizer. The vegetables and fruits that she grows herself she is able to sell at her market stall. For products such as cotton, she negotiates with distributors and factories who are interested in buying raw material.

Fidelina is happy to report that her business is going well. Although sales have slowed down for a great deal of merchants in the market, Fidelina says that her sales remain steady.

Fidelina is proud of her ability to manage well the loans and the profits she makes. In the future, Fidelina wants to keep taking out small loans. In the short-term, she hopes to grow more agricultural products and in the long-term, she would like to establish a business, perhaps a general store, in her own house. Because she is 59 years-old, Fidelina is thinking that this kind of business will be more suitable and will let her operate from her own home instead of having to go to the market with her products every day.
