Mrs. Um Rien, 51 years old, is a mother of seven and lives in Siem Reap province, Cambodia. She and her husband are farmers. They grow rice on their field, making one dollar per day collectively. Lately, the inflation rate has gone out control, so one dollar is barely enough to cover their family's expenses. Mrs Um Rien and her husband seek another business that would enable them to lift up their living condition. Recently, this couple had made a decision to ask for a loan from KIVA to purchase a motor-bike for her husband to operate a motor-taxi business called "Motor Dub".

In Cambodia, there are not many transportation options besides Motor-taxi, Cyclo, Tuk-Tuk and a taxi, so Motor-taxi is a very favorable business. Journal Update Entrepreneur: Um Rien Location: Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia A CREDIT MFI loan officer recently visited Um to check on her progress. After receiving her loan, Um bought a motorbike. Her income has gradually increased as of late, and because she and her husband do not have to expend money on motorcycle taxi rides, their net income is now greater than it was before. Um also purchase a water pump to irrigate her rice filed. This year the weather condition is not so bad so she hopes she will get more rice crop than last year. Um said she spends the extra money on making repayments for this loan, and paying for her children's education. She said that she has noticed an overall increase in the quality of life, and that she doesn't have to spend as much time commuting to work. When asked, Um said she was thankful to CREDIT for its good service, and to Kiva lenders for supporting her loan. She hopes that some of her poorer neighbors start taking loans from CREDIT
