Update from Picota, Peru - Dolly Paredes Torres

Entrepreneur: Dolly Paredes Torres
Location: Picota - San Martín, Peru

Communal Bank: Picota

Location: Picota, San Martin Region – Peru

Loan amount: 1,000 soles

Dolly has a small store where she sells soft drinks and other cold beverages. She recently changed from her previous business to this one because she saw that selling these products could generate more income. With the loan of 1,000 soles, Dolly stocked up and bought soft drinks in a variety of sizes and flavors. Although her sales are better than before, they have been slow because of the school vacation season, which affects many local merchants. Nonetheless, Dolly knows that as soon as classes start her sales will pick up again.

Dolly thinks that microcredit has been a huge help in improving her life. Before, she used to sell grilled foods in the afternoons but the smoke she was constantly exposed to was starting to impact her health. With credit, she was able to switch businesses and do something that is not so bad for her. Dolly recently relocated the business to an area closer to the main highway. Dolly wants to take advantage of the favorable location and she plans on expanding her business to sell “menu ejecutivo,” a daily lunch menu. She believes this will increase her income and her profits.
