Mario Sauceda is the new owner of a house that is lacking a protective fence. Mario needs the protective fence to be able to live securely in his new home with his wife and son. They are currently living in his mother-in-law's house, with his wife on the verge of giving birth. He would like to already be living in his new home when his second child is born.

Mario works for a refreshment company as a distributor, and his sales constitute his family's income. At the moment, he does not have sufficient funds to pay for a fence for his house.

Mario approached the FVP offices to solicit information about our loans. He thought it was excellent to find out that a company like FVP exists that can help him to improve his house to give his family a better life.

Mario is requesting a loan of $425 to build a protective fence around his house.

Update on Kiva Loan to Mario Alberto Sauceda Sánchez

Entrepreneur: Mario Alberto Sauceda Sánchez
Location: Nuevo Laredo, Mexico

Mario Alberto was at work when we stopped by his house this afternoon, so we were attended by his wife Edith. Mario works as an assistant salesman for a soda vendor, while Edith takes care of their 4-year old son at their house, which they have now owned for a full year.

In the original loan description, "protecciones" was mistranslated as "protective fence." In Mexico, "protecciones" refers to the protective metal bars installed in windows. Thus Mario and Edith used their Kiva loan to install bars across the two windows at the front of their house. Edith said the loan was a great help for the family, because otherwise they would have surely been robbed, as they live in a fairly unsafe neighborhood. The loan also enabled them to move out of Edith's parents' house and live securely in their own home.

It has been a hard couple of months for Mario and Edith. In July, their youngest child died of an infection in the hospital. Mario and Edith are now in debt to the funeral home, which has put great financial strain on the family. After they finish paying off their current loan, Edith hopes to take out another one in order to start a small business, so that she can provide additional income for her family. She and Mario also hope to one day be able to redo their living room, build a fence around the yard and purchase bunk beds.

Be sure to learn more about Kiva's partner MFI in Nuevo Laredo, Fundación para la Vivienda Progresiva, and make a loan to one of their currently fundraising clients.
