Jamila Abdul Salam's Group

Jamila baji is a widow of Abdul Salam and lives in a small city named Kot Radha Kishan, Pakistan. She owns a two-room brick house and has been living in it for the last 10 years. Jamila baji completed her education until the 8th standard. She is the mother of four children: two sons and two daughters. Her eldest son drives a tractor, but he also has his own tea stall. The next eldest son also drives a tractor. Her eldest daughter knits warm clothes. Her younger daughter is in the 9th standard. Jamila baji is a housewife and prefers to do household work. She successfully repaid her previous four loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is requesting a loan to buy supplies (kettle, cups, tea, and milk, sugar) to expand her son's tea business.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Suraiya baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop. Shazia baji wants a loan to buy a sewing machine. Khursheed baji wants a loan to buy clothes to resell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
