The Girasol ("Sunflower") group bank is made up of 14 partners who meet in the Los Mangales neighborhood in the center of the city of Montero. Most of the group members have small businesses that they run out of their homes in order to support their families. For example, the group's president, Sra. Nelva Sosa, is a teacher, but she also sells dry goods from her home as a second source of income.

The group members are involved in a wide variety of businesses. To illustrate, Reinaldo and Alexander operate motorcycle taxis; Maria Manuela is the radio operator for a taxi company; Clementina and Lizeth sell Herbalife products; Matilde, Nelva, Pabla, Fernando and Gaby all sell food (e.g., prepared meals, bread, hamburgers and dry goods); Pabla is a domestic employee; and Elia sells straw mats.

Sra. Sosa says that group loans are an important source of economic support for people who cannot access individual loans at other institutions because those types of loans require guarantees. Two male members of the group, who operate motorcycle taxis, agree and say that they are grateful for AgroCapital's support.

Update on your loan to Girasol in Bolivia

Your loan really supported the growth of their businesses and allowed them to have higher incomes for their families and provide some necessities. It has been hard for them to finish paying off the loan because of some missed payments by some members that hurt the overall well being of the group. The members are very grateful for the loan, but the bad members discouraged them, so they at the time being resting from taking out loans, but are recruiting new members in order to take out a new loan soon.

Thanks lenders!
