Rukia Kulendea, age 42, is widowed with three children. She has been involved in her business for 15 years. She sells vitenge (traditional Swahili fabrics) door-to-door. She works from 11am to 4pm daily and is able to earn a monthly profit of about $517. She purchases her supplies in the neighboring country of Burundi, and heads there once a month to restock.

This will be Rukia’s first loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. She intends to use the loan to pay rent for a small shop in the Kimara area, where she will be able to sell the vitenge. She will share this loan with her group, Uvumilivu. The members of the group hold each other accountable in paying back their loans.

Tailoring business is marvelous!

Entrepreneur: Rukia Kulendea's Uvumilivu Group
Location: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

Greetings from Tanzania! Thank you for supporting Rukia Kalendea and the Uvumilivu group. I am happy to report she is doing extremely well. With the loan she received, she purchased four more sewing machines for renting at 30000/per machine per month. As a result, her monthly profit rose to $294! Rukia uses the additional profits to cover household expenses and to buy fabrics and lotions for sale from door to door. Rukia and the Uvumilivu group are very grateful for the loan and are thankful to every one who has supported them.
