Nasreen Thomas's Group

Nasreen baji lives in Shah Rukn-e-Alam, a part of the city of Multan. Multan is famous for its historical places and handicrafts. Nasreen baji owns a two-room brick house where she has lived for the last 6 years. She is the mother of three children: two sons and one daughter. Her elder son works in a factory. Her younger son reads in 3rd standard and her daughter reads in 7th standard. Her husband, Mr. Thomas, is a painter who paints houses, windows, and doors.

Nasreen baji is a housewife and has a business of selling clothes. She buys clothes from different cities and sells them in Multan. She has been in this profession for the last 15 years. She is applying for a loan to buy more clothes to resell.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Parveen baji wants a loan to buy more clothes to resell. Nasreen baji wants a loan to buy seasonal vegetables to resell. Suraiya baji wants a loan to buy bicycle spare parts for her spare parts shop. Sugran baji wants a loan to buy scrap (plastic bottles and paper) for her scrap business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
