Justa's Kiva loan

Entrepreneur: Piedad Justa
Location: Location Undisclosed, Peru

Piedad Justa used her Kiva loan of 1000 soles to stock her dry goods store with rice, sugar, pasta, soap and vegetable oil. She says her sales have been steady since she invested the money, and fellow members of the Glorioso Village Bank agree that they haven’t noticed much change in their businesses during this particular loan cycle. The Glorioso Village Bank is one of FINCA’s oldest banks; the group is currently entering into its 43rd loan cycle and has been around for 14 years. The group is made up of 31 women and one man, who have become very close over the years. From FINCA’s patio, you can hear laughter coming from the group’s meeting room, and the members good-naturedly joke with one another throughout each interview I conduct.

Justa has been a FINCA client for the past ten years. “We’ve gotten a lot better,” she tells me. “We’re more responsible now.”

Justa recently began building a third floor onto her home. Her goal for the future is to finish the third floor and add a basement to her home. She wants to request an individual loan from FINCA, but has to renew her national ID card before she can apply.

Justa is pictured below (right) with Teodosia and Angelica, two fellow members of the Glorioso Village Bank.
