Saima baji is married to Abdul Ghaffar and lives in the small city of Arifwala, Pakistan. She has been living in this city for the last eight years. She is the mother of four children: two daughters and two sons. All of her children are enrolled in a local school in her neighborhood. Saima baji is a housewife and sews clothes for her neighbors. Her husband is a wholesaler and sells crockery. He has been in this profession for five years. Saima baji successfully completed two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan), which she used to buy more crockery. Now she is applying for another loan for the same business. Presently her husband sells crockery by going door to door, but in the future he hopes to buy a shop.

She is joined in her loan group by four others. Mussarat baji wants a loan to buy a buffalo for her milk-selling business. Jamila baji wants a loan to buy shoes for her shoe-selling business. Irshad baji wants a loan to buy ingredients such as yogurt and potatoes for her Punjabi food named "Dahi Bhala". Haleema baji wants a loan to buy vegetables to resell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
