Abdul Jalil

This 46-year-old man is Abdul Jalil. He is married and lives in Ningarhar province with his family. Jalil has 4 children who all go to school. His brother works with him on their own agricultural lands and shares a house. After his father died, Jalil became the responsible person for the household.

Besides farming, Abdul Jalil is actually a teacher. He teaches in a public school in the morning, and in the afternoon he works as a farmer in his village. He is growing different kinds of vegetables and sells them in the bazaar. In addition, he has some livestock as well. His small son brings grass for the animals.

Jalil is a hardworking man for sure, but there are 14 members in his family and supporting that many people with a 300 Afghanis ($6) a day income is almost impossible. He, therefore, has to expand his business. He thinks that if he buys more livestock and seed for his lands that he can increase his income. He has asked AFSG for a 30,000 ($600) Afghanis loan. He has decided to buy a cow and, with the remaining loan amount, purchase seeds and pesticides.

Abdul Jalil dreams of the day that he solves all his economic problems and then concentrates on teaching.
