Mary Nakatudde is the chairperson of Luwayo women's group. She is married with 7 children, with no one else to cater for; her children are enough on her shoulders since her husband has resorted to drinking alcohol and is no support for his children. Fortunately, 4 of them are out of school managing their own businesses.

Mary has a retail shop in Luwayo trading center away from Lugazi town. Usually she does her shopping at the wholesale shops in Lugazi and so far her shop is prospering. With her previous loans, she has been able to pay her children's school fees using her savings and the support from her farm.

Mary was a farmer long before she opened the shop but opted for the shop because it brings in quick money compared to farm products, and above all, she was able to get access to loans using her business. She has a dream of including the sale of cold drinks in her shop after getting electricity just from a pole at her neighbor's residence, but she still lacks the capital necessary for accomplishing the task. She now wants to restock her shop, buying sugar, washing soap, Vaseline, and bathing soap for more profits using the loan from Kiva.

Journal Entrepreneur: Luwayo Women's Group Location: Lugazi, Uganda Nakatudde Mary’s shop is in the best shape ever due to her ability to include more quality products for sale in her shop. Over time, she has learnt that having a variety gives one an opportunity to choose from and surely she ensures that her shop is stocked with in her means and this is why she is into loans. As a result, she has been able to cater for her family as the sole bread winner although she is married with a husband whose happiness is only to see food on the table not minding about how it came about.
