Teresa is a member of the Los Chancas community bank in the Peruvian "departamento" of San Martin. She operates a business selling cold drinks at a school near her house. She also sells food from her house, operates a carpentry shop with her husband and grows and sells vegetables that she harvests on her small farm. She has amazing business experince because she's tried many kinds of businesses, first selling groceries, then spotting an opportunity to sell fruit and now the school food-selling business, all demonstrating her will to get ahead.

With this loan of S/.1,500 (1,500 Peruvian soles), to be repaid in 6 months, she will buy the ingredients she needs to make the products that she sells: cooking oil, sugar, rice, menestras (a local vegetable stew), condiments, chicken, etc. She will also invest in wood for making the furniture that her customers order.

Teresa, 65, lives with her husband and has grown children. From her youth, she's been noted for her enthusiasm, her work ethic and her perseverance. She dreams of improving her carpentry shop and setting up a space in her house for a restaurant (because she likes to cook). Above all, she wants to be around other people.

Loan update from Lamas, Peru - Teresa de Jesus Rios Macedo

Entrepreneur: Teresa De Jesús Rios Macedo
Location: Lamas - San Martín, Peru

Teresa is a very energetic 65 year-old woman. She belongs to the “Los Chankas” community bank in Lamas and she has been a member of this group for about 5 years. All her children are now professionals but she is supporting her grandson who is currently in school.

Teresa has several businesses. She makes food to sell at a school near her house, she sells fruits and vegetables that grow in her plot of land and together with her husband, they have a carpentry shop where he makes all kinds of furniture.

The last loan of 1,500 soles has helped Teresa buy the supplies she needs to keep her businesses running. With a portion of that amount Teresa bought the products she needs to make the dishes she sells at the school. With the other portion she bought wood for the carpentry shop. Teresa is thankful for the loan she received as the profits she makes from her businesses have allowed her to help pay for her grandson's school expenses and her own needs.

In the near future, Teresa wants to buy a display case for food so she can sell meals in front of her home instead of going to the school. She also wants to make food to order for customers who want daily meals as this is a much more profitable endeavor. In addition to growing her businesses, Teresa wants to keep supporting her grandson to continue with his education.
