Retail business is the primary occupation of the people from this village. Women particularly devote themselves to retail business due to the lack of industry in the village. The objectives of this group are to improve the living conditions of its members and to lighten the load of these housewives. Their retail business consists of the purchase and resale of fishing products, fruits, palm oil from the Ziguinchor region, fabric, traditional printed cloth, holiday celebration items from the Kaolack region and other merchandise that can be easily sold and that does not deteriorate quickly. This allows them to make lots of sales during holidays like Korité (l'Aïd el Fitr) and Tabaski (Aïd el Kabir).

Entrepreneur: Diamono Plateau 2 Group
Location: Ndiaye Ndiaye, Senegal

The Diamano Plateau group of women buys items like fabrics, dresses, and kitchen utensils from other regions in Senegal, notably the city of Kaolack, to sell in the neighborhoods of their hometown of Fatick. They keep their profits in a common pool in hopes of enlarging and diversifiying their stock. Fatou Niang, the presdient, hopes that this Kiva loan, which is a renewal of a previous one that has just been paid off, will allow them to amass enough capital to open and manage a shop in which to display their merchandise.
