Ghulam Fatima Noor Muhammad's Group

Ghulam Fatima is the wife of Noor Muhammad and lives in the small area of Kot Radha Kishan, in Kasur Pakistan. She owns a two room brick house and has been living in it for the last 12 years. She is the mother of four children: one son and three daughters. None of her children go to school because of their poor financial condition. Her husband works in a kiln where he makes bricks. Noor Muhammad is the only breadwinner. He wants to improve his financial condition and therefore his wife has requested for a loan from Asasah (a Pakistan microfinance institute ). He wants to advance money for use of the kiln to the kiln owner so that he is able to make bricks according to his need.

Ghulam is joined in her loan group by four more members. Suraiya baji wants a loan to buy vegetables for her vegetable selling business. Suraiya baji wants a loan to buy milk for her milk business. Zareena baji wants a loan to give an advance to the kiln contractor for making bricks. Shazia baji wants a loan to buy furniture to resell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
