Ikhtayar M.qasim's Group

Ikhtayar baji wakes up at 4 AM to milk the buffalos and fills the milk into big steel jars and hands it over to her husband who goes to several shops to sell the milk. She successfully completed her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute in Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy a buffalo to expand her milk business.

She is joined in her loan group by several more members. Khursheed baji wants a loan to buy cosmetics for her beauty parlor. Zubaida baji wants a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled vehicle). Bashiran baji and Shakeela baji each want a loan to buy vegetables to resell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
