Jamila baji is the wife of Muhammad Bota and lives in a city named Chichawatni, Pakistan. She is the mother of nine children: four sons and five daughters. Her daughters are enrolled in a local school in her neighborhood. Her elder son has a bicycle shop where he sells bicycles. Jamila baji is a housewife and takes care of her children. She successfully completed her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute in Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan for her younger son who wants to start a "wooden cot" business at his house where he makes wooden cots and sells them at good prices. For this business he requires wood.

She is joined in her loan group by several more members. Sakina baji and Zuhra baji each want a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled vehicle). Buhran baji wants a loan to repair her workshop. Razia baji wants a loan to buy material (rice and chick-peas) for her food business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
