Rafia M.aslam's Group

Rafia baji is the wife of M.Aslam and lives in the small city of Kasur in Pakistan. She owns a two room brick house and has been living in it for the last 26 years. She is the mother of five children: three sons and two daughters. Her elder daughter and elder sons make embroidered clothes. Her younger daughter is in the 8th grade. Her younger son is in the 3rd grade. Rafia baji's husband is a mason and has been in this profession for the last 10 years. Rafia baji also makes embroidered dresses. She has successfully repaid her two loans from Asasah (a Pakistan microfinance institute ). Now she is applying for a loan to buy embroidery material (thread, cloth) to expand her embroidery business.

Rafia baji is joined in her loan group by four more members. Sakina baji wants a loan to buy school bags to resell. Bushra baji wants a loan to buy a sewing machine for sewing clothes. Parveen baji wants a loan to buy fruits to resell. Irshad baji wants a loan to buy embroidery material (thread, cloth).

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
