The apple season has arrived. As we talked to Kamil, people were continually coming up to his car -- which held his tasty supplies -- to fill up a bag with delicious green apples and weigh it on his scale.

Kamil received an $875 Kiva loan in June to expand his 11-year-old business. Now, in the high season for apples, his car is loaded -- the trunk and backseat overflowing.

And he does a brisk business, selling them for 40 kopeck (cents) a kilo in the settlement of Khirdalan, where Internally Displaced Persons from Azerbaijan's conflict with Armenia eke out a living.

The added income has gone to his four kids, he said. He uses the money to buy more food and clothes for his children, especially his son who is studying at Azerbaijan International University.

"I am very thankful not only to my lenders but also to Kiva. With their help, I can improve my business," he said with a happy grin.
