Lam Saom

Lam Saom, 56, is a mother of six children and lives with her husband in Siem Reap province, Cambodia. She is a basketmaker, making various kinds of baskets and selling them outdoors. Her husband has been a motor-taxi driver since 2006 and makes $3 each day of profit. Most of the Cambodian people living in Siem Reap operate a souvenir store and some run a motor-taxi business. All of their children are married and only one child still lives at home.

Mrs. Saom would like a loan from Kiva via Credit, the local partner, to purchase more bamboo to make more baskets to meet her customers' demands, and the leftover would be used to purchase a motorbike for her children to commute to work. (Mrs. Lam is pictured with her old mother at home.)
