Miriam is a 45-year-old mother of four children. She lives in a rented house where there are other tenants. Miriam and her husband sell ceramics, glasswork, sheets, bedspreads, and other products to order and door-to-door. Furthermore, her husband buys imported products from the city of Lima and then travels to different provinces to sell their products on credit once a week or every fifteen days.

Miriam is a member of the Generosidad Village Bank. She needs a loan of 3,000 Nuevos Soles to invest in pressure pots, Pyrex products, and sheets.

Miriam's dream is to construct a house in Lima, to have a stable store, and that her children may become professionals.

Miriam's Kiva loan

Entrepreneur: Miriam Lidia Muñoz Coca
Location: Ayacucho, Peru

Miriam used her Kiva loan of 3,000 soles to buy pressure cookers and steel pots with glass and steel lids for the business she runs with her husband. The couple continues to travel to sell dishes and crystal ware in the regions around Ayacucho, the city where they live. Sales have been pretty steady since she invested the money, says Miriam. She has been working with the Generosidad (“Generosity”) Village Bank for two years now, and says that FINCA Peru has been very influential in her life, especially in helping her adolescent children study and get ahead. The institution has helped her pay for her son’s tuition at police academy.

Miriam plans to continue working with FINCA for the foreseeable future.
