    Ms. Duong Thi Quang

    Entrepreneur: Thi Quang Duong's Group
    Location: Bac Ninh, Viet Nam

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Duong Thi Quang who is the group leader of this group. While I understand that her loan ended in April, I still felt that I could update you on how she’s doing and how her business has grown since her Kiva loan. Ms. Duong was chosen to be group leader of this group because she works at the local branch of the Women’s Union which SEDA has a partnership with for providing microloans to the local community women. Because Ms. Duong is respected and works for the Women’s Union in a microloan capacity, her group voted for her to be the leader.

Ms. Duong makes ropes at her home and used her Kiva loan to buy the materials necessary to make her ropes. She has been making rope for only three years and previously sold scrap iron. She decided to get out of the iron business because it was very difficult and required her to travel frequently and at the urging of her eldest son who is now working in construction in Libya. Thus she decided to make rope because she could easily do it from home. The rope that she makes is very strong and she sells it to people in her village and in surrounding communities.

Currently Ms. Duong’s income is around 2,000,000 VND per month which is roughly $112. Prior to her Kiva loan, her income was lower, but she cannot remember exactly what it was. She uses her extra income from her new business to help pay for her family’s personal expenses, her second son’s education, and to reinvest into her business. Ms. Duong is very industrious and hopes that she can get larger loans in the future so that business can continue to grow and she hopes that her second son will go to university. Good luck Ms. Duong!
