Shahnaz Muhammad Sultan's Group

Shahnaz baji is the wife of Muhammad Sultan and has lived in the city of Borewala, Pakistan for the past 3 years, where she owns a two room brick house. She is the mother of four children: one son and three daughters. Her children are enrolled in a local school in her neighborhood. Her husband is a mason by profession. Shahnaz baji is a housewife and prefers to take care of her children. She is applying for a loan to buy masonry tools (beams, hammer) for her husband.

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members: Shahida baji wants a loan to buy a juicer machine; Naziran baji wants a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw (local three-wheeled motor vehicle); and Shakooran baji wants a loan to buy cloth to resell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
