The 9 members of the Yankadi group are, on average, 44 years old with 4 children. The majority live in traditional families in the Sokala area of Dagala (Region of Ségou, Republic of Mali). They sell charcoal, firewood, grains and condiments. They have come together because of friendship, family relations and professional ties. The Benkadi Dagala association, to which the Yankadi group belongs, has received many training courses in the context of support for rural organizations provided by the non-governmental organization FIDA. In search of financial resources, this group has already worked with several microfinance institutions but finally decided to join Soro Yiriwaso, from which it is receiving its second group loan after the first was easily repaid. The women intend to purchase 90 cartloads of firewood and 15 bags of charcoal, locally and in neighboring areas (Dougasso, Zenguena, Gachin and Fombougou), 15 bags of millet (in Dagala, Siguila and Mèfa), and condiments at the large market in the city of Ségou. They generally sell their products at retail prices for cash or on credit at the market in Ségou or door-to-door, for the charcoal and firewood. They sell the condiments door-to-door in the village and on market days in the neighboring villages. Their clientele is made up of all types of people (men and women, young and old). They would like to earn an average monthly profit of 10,000 CFA francs, which will be used to repay the interest on the loan and meet their families’ needs. They would also like to work to create a non-governmental organization to restore and protect their ecosystem.
