Luz, whose name means “light” in Spanish, lives with her husband and four children, ages 15, 14, 13 and 5. They live in a small house made of cement blocks with a cement roof and a cement floor. She has a small business selling clothing out of her house. She buys clothing in bulk packs and then sells each piece individually. Luz has successfully repaid 3 loans to Esperanza International and is now requesting her fourth loan. She wants to be able to continue to buy more clothing and expand her business so that her kids can grow up with everything they need and get a good education.

La venta va bien! (Sales are going well!) Entrepreneur: Bienestar En Dios (well-being In God) Groups Ii-4 And I-6 Location: El Seybo, Dominican Republic Luz travels by bus two hours to the capital Santo Domingo where she buys shirts, skirts, shoes, and other clothing apparel with the money from her Kiva loan. In the large, open-air market she can buy shirts for 200-350 pesos and resell them in her community for 350 pesos. Luz has the market advantage of being the only clothing store in town. She also expended her business and now buys used clothing from community residents and resells them. Her earnings from selling new and used clothing creates an income of approximately 1000-1500 pesos a week. With her earnings Luz supports her children, and saves what she can. Her future business goals are to keep expanding her clothing business into surrounding communities.
