This group was formed thanks to Liliana Noemi Sanabria Verdun who is a hairdresser in the Santa Domingo neighborhood of Lambaré. Since she was small, Liliana dreamed of having her own salon where every woman could go to become more beautiful. She tells the story of how, as a little girl playing with her dolls, she did their hair and make-up. Her dream has been realized thanks to her hard work and the loans she received to start up her business.

Liliana and her neighbors and friends formed the group named Rosa Mística, and together they took out a loan from Fundación Paraguaya through its program “Committee of Women Entrepreneurs”. Like Liliana, the other women in the group work at the same time as raising their families. Each is engaged in a different activity: some women work as traveling vendors, some sell food, and some own “despensas” (mini-markets), while others produce artisan textiles to sell.

Rosa Mística is a very united, hard-working group whose members, in addition to their work activities, perform community work and raise funds to invest in the betterment of their neighborhood.

These women would like a loan in order to buy merchandise to sell—merchandise such as meat, fruit, vegetables, drinks, cosmetics, stockings, fabric, thread, and knitting needles.

Translated by Melissa Hays, Kiva volunteer.
