Lourdes belongs to the “Las Golondrinas 2” comunal bank and she lives in the Callería district of the department of Ucayali. She is 61 years old, is a widow, and has 9 children, all of whom are adults. Her father, her 37 year-old single son, and 3 grandchildren live with her. The money that her son gives her from his taxi driver job isn’t enough to make ends meet. Therefore, with the firs loan of S/. 300.00 from Manuela Ramos, she decided to invest in buying and selling fruits and ice creams. She currently runs the business from her home. Lourdes gets up very early in order to make breakfast for her father, son, and grandchildren before going to the market to make her purchases for the day. She then prepares lunch and tends to her business. She finishes her work at 9:00pm.

With this loan of S/. 1,000.00, which she will repay in 4 months, she will buy 200 oranges, 200 tangerines, and 200 ice creams. Each day is a challenge for Lourdes. She is very happy for the opportunity provided by Manuela Ramos to obtain a loan and thereby help her grandchildren, who are her greatest treasure.
