Johana del Socorro is 32 years old and lives in the René Cisneros neighborhood. She is a single mother who wants to offer her child and herself better quality of life.

She is a shopkeeper. She has a convenience store in her home which has been growing over the years, thanks to her good and organized management. At times, however, the lack of capital has made it difficult for her to offer a large inventory.

Her father gave her the financial support with which she started the business. Her future plans are to expand the business by offering a wider range of products. With the loan she will buy basic grains, cosmetics and clothing, all of which which help her increase her earnings.

Convinient Store

Entrepreneur: Johana Del Socorro Obregón
Location: Managua, Nicaragua

My name is Amanda and will be the voice of this progress report; I work for Afodenic the organization that loan to Johana.

Johana is the proud owner of a small convenience store, where she and her mother work. In the store they had a good variety of products for sale, but they wished to have more. Johana requested a loan from Kiva through Afodenic to be able to include food such as basic grains and products for personal hygiene like soap, shampoo, etc. With the money from Kiva they have bought new products and their clients are happy to find new products. However, the economy of the world is not in the best shape, and there is less and less disposable income to spend. People are saving more, thus they are not doing as good as they thought they would do. But they are working hard and will continue to do so to pay back the loan and wait for better times to come. Despite the bad times, they are very grateful to Kiva and Afodenic for the opportunity they are giving them.
