Kosar Abdul Majeed's Group

Kosar baji (baji is an Urdu term of respect meaning "elder sister") is the wife of Abdul Majeed and they have been living in Kasur, Pakistan for the last 10 years. She is the mother of five children, two sons and three daughters, all of whom are enrolled in a local school.. She owns a two-room brick house. Abdul Majeed drives an auto-rickshaw. Kosar baji successfully completed her two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan) and is now applying for a loan to buy another auto-rickshaw to expand the business.

She is joined in her loan group by several other members. Kosar baji would like to buy masonry tools. Bushra baji wants a loan for her sweetmeat business. Anwar baji wants to buy a lift machine (similar to a tractor). Shabana baji would like to buy fruit for her fruit sales business.

In this group loan, the funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans, so that if one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
