Fatima João Boene is 27 years old and was born in Boane. She is single and lives alone with her 5-month-old daughter. Fatima has never lived outside her hometown. She was trained at the elementary teacher training center as an elementary school teacher. She is currently living in her pantry because her house is under construction.

Fatima has been teaching at a public school for 3 years, and receives a monthly salary of 2,640.00 MT. This is her 3rd loan with Hluvuku and her first through Kiva. She has never taken out loans through other institutions. She found out about Hluvuku by chance when she walked by and saw an announcement. She decided to stop and get information, and later on put in her first request, which was approved.

This loan will go toward buying building materials. Her greatest dream is to see her house built and furnished.

Update on Fatima Boene's Kiva Loan!

Entrepreneur: Fatima João Boene
Location: Boane, Maputo, Mozambique

Fatima Boene has been working on the construction of her home since 2006. She has been able to construct the home bit by bit as money has been available. With help from her Kiva loan construction of the home is almost complete. Fatima and her young child are currently living in overcrowded quarters with Fatima's parents. Being able to move into her home will give Fatima further independence and provide adequate space for her and her child.

In the future Fatima would like to construct small rental units on her property to supplement the income she gets as an elementary school teacher. She also dreams of one day opening up a beauty salon. Fatima's first experience with microcredit was with Hluvuku. She said that without microcredit it would have taken her ages to build her home.

About housing in Mozambique: In rural Mozambique many people still do not live in proper homes. Years of civil war and economic shocks have inhibited residents from accessing capital and buying building materials for their homes. The last several years have been relatively prosperous and many residents are using microfinance as a means to commence construction of their home.

Thank you for supporting Fatima's project!
