Victoria Namakula is the leader of a group of five women. She is 39 years old and married with five children. Her children are 21, 18, 15, 12 and 9 years old. The three youngest children are in school while the two oldest work. Victoria lives in an urban slum on the outskirts of Kampala that is prone to flooding during the rainy season.

Victoria has been operating her kiosk and selling motorcycle oil for the past six years. She buys products for the kiosk from a nearby market, but must travel into Kampala via shared taxi to purchase motorcycle oil. Victoria sells samosas, sweets, and breads out of her kiosk, mainly to school children . She sells the motor oil from her home early in the morning and late in the evening.

With this loan Victoria plans on buying raw materials for cooking and additional motor oil. Victoria started the center in Mulago and has been working with MCDT for many years. She decided to start the center because she wanted to be able to pay for her children’s school fees.

Victoria has successfully repaid 12 loans and since she began working with MCDT, she has been able to grow her business, provide for her family, and pay school fees.

Victoria hopes to be able to buy a plot of land and build a house one day .
