Trinidad is a member of the community bank Las Divinas, located in the street Apurimac 130, in the district of Calleria in the Ucayali region of Peru. She is 61 years old and the mother of 10 children. Her husband is a bricklayer, but his meager income does not meet the family's expenses. As a result, with the first loan she received from Manuela Ramos Trinidad decided to start her own beauty products business.

Trinidad works selling a variety of beauty products. She rises at 7 AM in order to prepare breakfast for her children. Later she spends the day distributing her beauty products to her clients until 5 pm. With this loan of 1700 soles (Peruvian currency) which will be repaid in 6 months she will buy a large quantity of beauty products in order to increase her sales.

Apart from her commitment to support her children, Trinidad works because of the way it makes her feel, and because it allows her to independently manage her finances and help with the household expenses. She is appreciative of the support that Manuela Ramos provides her business.

Update on Trinidad Paredes Padilla from Pucallpa, Peru

Entrepreneur: Trinidad Paredes Padilla
Location: Callería - Ucayali, Peru

I went out to visit Trinidad at her home (which is also where she keeps the materials for her business) on June 11th. Conversation with Trinidad's youngest daughter, who is studying informatics at a local university, kept me occupied until Trinidad returned from a meeting at the Manuela Ramos office here in Pucallpa. Trinidad's current business is selling clothes from her home, in nearby neighborhoods, and in settlements along the river that flows past Pucallpa and joins the Amazon to the north. Trinidad reports that her business is doing well. She is currently paying back a loan of 2000 Peruvian soles (about $665) from Manuela Ramos and her communal bank, “Las Divinas”, which she used to purchase goods for her business. Apparently, Trinidad has also dedicated herself to selling other materials in the past. She told me that she once had an additional business selling cooked food, an activity which she may take up again in the future.

Trinidad reports that the loans she has received from Manuela Ramos have served her well-- she has been working with the organization for more than six years. Her goal is to continue increasing her earnings.

Of Trinidad's 10 children, only the youngest two remain in her home under her care. Trinidad lives with these two daughters, her husband, and her granddaughter, child of her youngest daughter.

Trinidad is pictured here next to some of the children's clothing that she is selling. In her lap is her granddaughter, Andrea Esperanza.
