Nulu Nakakande is a 42-year-old married mother of four children, ranging in age from 21 years to 10 months old. She sells mukene (siver fish), a small fish sold by the scoopful and used to provide relatively inexpensive protein for meals. Twice a week, she travels by truck from Kampala to Entebbe, about an hour drive away, to buy mukene from the market, leaving at 4:00 a.m. She buys 8 large sacks at a time at 80,000/= each (Ugandan shillings, about $48 US), and brings them back to sell at the local market in smaller amounts. Each sack nets a profit of about 20,000/= (about $12).

Nulu and her group have previously received 8 loans from MCDT. With this loan, Nulu would like to add inventory for her business. The loan will also help her to pay school fees for her two middle children.
