Loan Update

Entrepreneur: Phan Uy
Location: Siem Reap Province, Cambodia

Phan Uy is 47 and lives with her husband and three children in Siem Reap, Cambodia, famous as the home of Angkor Wat. At the time she took her loan, she worked as a city cleaner and earned about $3 a day, while her husband earned $5 a day as a motorbike mechanic. Phan took a loan to purchase a trailer that she could use to transport workers to the city.

When Chhoeurn Kong, a CREDIT loan officer, visited Phan, he found that Phan and her husband had used the money from the loan to purchase a trailer and a sand pump. Overall, the family's income has increased as a result of the new transportation business, but costs for gas and trailer repairs have increased.

Phan says that the family's standard of living has increased, and that they can afford things like more educational supplies, better food, and utilities. Her husband would eventually like to take out a loan to open a mechanic school where he could teach others to repair motorbikes. The couple would also like to purchase a motorbike so their son can use it as a moto-taxi in the city.

Phan and her husband graciously thanked the Kiva lenders who contributed to her loan.
