Yin Lok, 38, is married and lives in the Kampong Cham province with her five children. She works in the local food market selling Khmer cakes known as, “Num Akeo.” It is a traditional Khmer cake made from sticky rice and sugar and it earns her about US$3 each day. Her husband is a construction foreman who makes US$2 each day, while the family is also supported by some of the children who work. Two of the daughters sell soft drinks on the roadside near the local market, making around US$2 each day, while the other three are too young to work. Yin Lok has asked for a loan of US$800 to purchase a stand near the market for her daughters to sell desserts. The dessert business is much more profitable than soft drinks and she believes her family can increase its income with this expansion.

Loan Update

Entrepreneur: Yin Lok
Location: Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia

Yin Lok, 38, lives with her husband and five children in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. Yin sells Cambodian cakes, and her husband is a construction foreman. At the time they applied for a loan, they made $3 and $2 a day, respectively. Yin asked for a loan to purchase a stand where her daughters could sell her desserts.

A CREDIT MFI loan officer recently visited Yin to check on her progress. After receiving her loan, Yin purchased a stand where her children help her sell her cakes. As a result, her family's income has increased, and she uses the extra money to reinvest in her business.

In the future, Yin said she wants to sell rice and meals in front of her house because a Korean company plans to open a shoe factory nearby, and she expects many potential customers to pass by once it has opened.

When asked, Yin said she was thankful to CREDIT for its good service, and to Kiva lenders for supporting her loan.
