Mambo from Mbeya, Tanzania and from SELFINA! Thank you for your loan through Kiva to Katherine N. Mwakibinga, a SELFINA client and micro-entrepreneur. The purpose of this journal is to update you on Katherine and the status of her business.

As you know, your generosity helped Katherine obtain a loan of $425 in July 2008. She is running fruits business and used the loan to purchase more bananas in bulk. She works at her business for 9 - 12 hours per day, 7 days per week. Since she took out the loan, her business has been doing well and Katherine’s monthly profits have increased from about $190 to approximately $250. She has used these extra profits to successfully repay her loan as well as to pay for her children school fees, to pay electricity and water bills and to buy better food for her family.

In the future, she is planning to request a loan of $600 from SELFINA with which she plans to expand her business. On the personal front, her family is doing well and she assisted with her husband. She is married with 3 children. Katherine dreams about send her children to University. SELFINA aims to continue to assist Katherine and other women like her, and empower them towards financial security and increased confidence through micro loans.
