Him Sopheap, 33, is married and lives with her three young children in the Kampong Cham province. She is a farmer who works for less than US$1 each day, while her husband works in construction making US$5 each day. The weather conditions have been difficult for farming in Cambodia this past year and inflation has caused food prices to skyrocket. These factors have played into a difficult economic year for many Cambodians, Him Sopheap included. In light of these economic difficulties, she is asking for a loan of US$250 to expand her farmland. In order to increase her profits and possibly raise her standard of living, she would like to purchase more land to produce rice with the loan given to her through CREDIT.

Loan Update

Entrepreneur: Him Sopheap
Location: Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia

Him Sopheap, 33, lives with her husband and three children in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. Him is a farme, and her husband is a construction worker. Him requested this loan so she could by more land to cultivate.

A CREDIT MFI loan officer recently visited Him to check on her progress. After receiving her loan, Him bought a plot of land. She now has more total output, and her total income has increased by $2 per day. She has taken this extra money and invested in a small grocery stand in front of her home, where she sells snacks and other goods.

Him said her standard of living has improved because she makes more money and can afford to invest in another business. In the future she wants to take out another loan so she can buy even more land and broaden the range of goods she sells at her store.

When asked, Him said she was thankful to CREDIT for its good service, and to Kiva lenders for supporting her loan.
