Ghulam Batool Zulfiaqar's Group

Ghulam Batool is the wife of M. Zulfiqar and has lived in a city named Arifwala in Pakistan for the last 50 years. They have a two-room brick house and are the parents of ten children; eight sons and two daughters. The two eldest sons have a vegetable business. The younger three have a paint shop. Another son is a tailor and has been in this profession for the last eight years. Their oldest daughter is in the 10th level of school and the next oldest daughter is in 8th level.

The daily income is $10 to $13. Ghulam Batool successfully repaid her loan from a microfinance institute of Pakistan. She is requesting a second loan for the son who is tailor and wants to start a garment business.

She has four other women in her loan group. Naseem baji (Baji is an Urdu term meaning "eldest sister".) wants a loan to expand her cement business; Latifan baji wants to expand her grocery shop; Najma baji wants to buy a sewing machine and Razia baji needs funding for her paint shop.

The loan will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
