The Village Bank Nueva Ilusión is a new bank that just began with 18 members, who after weeks of working and learning are beginning to be very happy. Many of them were invited by members of other big Village Banks.

The members have different businesses such as the sale of clothing, artisan work, vegetables, groceries, construction materials, candy and sweets, cereals, food, cosmetics, and the agriculture of vegetables.

Each member has a different history – such as Raquel who lives in the community of Totorilla. With her family she is committed to agriculture and growing vegetables which she sells in the Nery Garcia market – and she uses the income from these sales to pay for her studies. Another bank member, Lucia, sells sweets at the door of the San Ramon school. She says that at first they would push her away, but because of her consistency she has now established her place there.

The members need varying loan amounts totaling 8,400 soles. The loans will be invested in the purchase of shirts, sweaters, sugar, rice, meat, wheat, barley, cookies, candies, cosmetics, seeds and abono (fertilizer).

The dreams of the women are that their businesses are prosperous and their children become professional and that they one day own their own homes.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
