Ake Toiata's Group

This group from Faala Palauli is a new group in which the members work individually on their businesses but, when it comes to the time of payments, they are very kind to each other. Most of them work on plantations and vegetable gardens because their land is fertile. Their husbands weed the grasses and plant the taro (called "taamu" in Samoa), while the women are responsible for marketing and sales. This is their first loan and also the first time for them to run their own businesses.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
