Ysabel is the mother of three children, ages 5, 14 and 16. She has a business where she sells clothes and shoes. She wants to be able to send her children to school and provide them with a better life. By investing the money she will receive from the loan in her business, she hopes to grow her clothing sales and pursue her dreams for her family.

The loan will also help the other group members fund their business enterprises. The photo shows all ten women at a group meeting with their loan officer.

Kiva Business Update Entrepreneur: Estrellas Brillante (brilliant Stars) Group Location: El Seybo, Dominican Republic Ysabel Jimenez Santana used her Kiva loan to travel to Santo Domingo to the large, open-air market to buy more clothing, sandals, perfume, bedding, curtains, and shoes in bulk. Her best seller is men’s shoes that she purchases for 200 pesos and resells for 350 pesos. To sell her merchandise Ysabel invites clients to her house, but mainly walks around her community selling door to door. Ysabel currently has a profit of approximately 2,000 pesos every two weeks. She uses her profits to care for her three children, and invest in her merchandise. Ysabel hopes to continue working hard to expand her business and sell more expensive merchandise such as watches. The day I visited Ysabel at her home she had just purchased curtains in bulk and already had women stopping by to see them!
