Malahat is an unmarried, fifty year old woman who is originally from the small town of Devechi, Azerbaijan, near the Caspian Sea. She sells household linens and women’s clothing, to include blouses, skirts, undergarments, and tablecloths. Her business is located in the Devechi bazaar where she shares a shop with a grocery shore. Malahat travels to the huge imports market in Baku once a week to specially select Turkish clothing for her shop. She used her Kiva-funded loan to broaden her selection of goods. She used to work at a shop in a metro bazaar in Baku, but she decided to return to her hometown of Devechi to be nearer to her parents. She has no employees and therefore works everyday of the week, with her only break being Sunday afternoon. She describes business as being good and says she has no significant difficulties.
