This Comite San Rafael group of women was formed in October 2006. Maria Teresa Franco and Juliana Vargas initiated the first meeting and convinced 16 ladies to work together to form the group in order to have access to capital. Excited about the idea, the ladies decided to form a committee in order to bring prosperity to their families.

The ladies are involved in many business activities such as: running grocery stores and selling fruit, clothes, bags, shoes, drinks and sheets among others. The money provided by Kiva lenders will be used to purchase these goods.

The Committee of Entrepreneuring women is a program carried out by Fundación Paraguaya which targets groups of enterprising women who create a village bank through which they receive assistance in terms of loans. The main goal is to give them the opportunity to carry out economic activities which enable them to live in dignity and contribute to a better quality of life in their homes. Lending to poor women creates a cascading effect that brings social and economic benefits to a whole family, and thus to the entire community. What is more, the sense of belonging to a group gives these women the energy and motivation to reach success.

Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
